Charging an object by Conduction

Charging by conduction: An object can also be charged by touching it to a charged body. For example, if we take a charged glass rod and touch it to a metal object, the metal object will also get a charge. This is called charging by conduction.

                       

In the given figure a positively charged rod is bring close an uncharged sphere. When the rod touches the sphere there occur flow of electrons form sphere to the rod. This makes the sphere more positive due to lose of electrons and rod becomes less positive due to gain of electrons.
